In 1983,he was awarded the inaugural Sir Robert Matthew Award by the Commonwealth Association of Architects in recognition of his outstanding contributions to architecture across the Commonwealth.
In 1984,he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects(RAIA).
In 1987,he was elected an Honorary Life Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects(RAIA),and was conferred Honorary Fellowship of the American Institute of Architects in the same year.
In 1988,he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia(AO)for his extraordinary contributions to the architectural profession.
In 1993,he received the inaugural Sport and Architecture Award issued by the International Olympic Committee(IOC),and was simultaneously elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Humanities.
In 2017,he was appointed an International Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA).
To this day,Philip Cox remains deeply engaged in the forefront of the design of major architectural projects in Australia and around the world.

隨著全球多數地區人口從鄉村向城市遷移，許多城市已發展為容納2500萬人口乃至更多的巨型都市。其中部分城市已然突破傳統城市的概念界限，其自身的身份特征已難以被清晰辨識。我們固然能夠理解中央商務區（CBD）的獨特性與視覺辨識度，然而，“社區”與“社會單元”本身的意義卻隨之受到質疑。它們是否依然存在？我們棲居之所的場所感何在？承載我們存在的場所精神又在何處？
With rural drift to the cities happening in most places of the world many of these have become megalopolises holding up to 25 million people and some more which defy the concept of city as we traditionally know it having identity that can be comprehended.We can understand the concepts of central business districts CBD of having some distinctiveness and visual realisation however the whole question of community and social unit comes into question.Does it exist anymore,where is the sense of place of living,the genius loci of our being.
隨著高層住宅不斷提高城市密度，我們共事、交往與共居的社會單元，連同我們的生活環境，也因此面臨重新審視。城市面貌日趨同質化，身份認同不斷流失，人與人之間的社會交往與互動空間被大幅壓縮。隨著城市生活成本居高不下且就業前景充滿不確定性，鄉村人口持續涌入城市的發展模式正受到質疑。與此同時，人們對清潔空氣、能源資源等環境問題的關注日益增加，使得小型社區與“村落”單元，正被視作切實可行的替代發展模式，重新進入大眾視野。
The social unit of who we work with,socialise,live with,the environment in which we live is under question as we increase the densities of our cities through high rise residential buildings creating a spreading sameness a loss of identity that affords little opportunity for social;inter reactive process to take place.The rural drift to the cities continuing is questioned as affordability in cities and work opportunity is uncertain,and coupled with environmental concerns such clean air,energy resources,smaller communities or village units are being examined as viable alternatives.

We are on the threshold of establishing self-sufficient sustainable communities that can produce their own power through solar and other means,collect their own water,manage their waste products,recycle material of the past,build in the vernacular tradition using materials that have zero carbon impact.There are many examples of communities both urban and rural growing their own produce.IT and AI are producing a different society where work can operate remotely and does not need to be confined to place or a commercial office as we know it.Factories and places of manufacture are increasingly robotic and mechanised.This allows a greater freedom for choice of habitat,whether the preference is in the city with its cultural advantages,suburbia that allows contact with a broader landscape or rural that is integrated with the earth itself.

Each of these opportunities of living require the concept of village,where a collection of people have interface with each other and share common values,sharing such things as schools,retail areas and market,community gatherings and meeting halls,where cultural events such as music and art can flourish,and most importantly where the architecture of the village expresses the people themselves in a vernacular way.There is so much discussion of loss of socialisation,mental health issues that have resulted from the loss of village life.The sense of belonging to a place represented by its architecture is important and how that architecture helps in the lives of the people in all ways,environmentally and socially,the sense of identity and belonging.
將被動式節能技術融入當代建筑設計，是人類可持續存續的關鍵。建筑設計應有機融入這些技術，而非將其生硬、刻意地附加于建筑之上。
The inclusion of passive energy technologies into the architecture of our time is important for our survival and how architecture can absorb those technologies without treating them as uncomfortable attachments.
本次設計議題旨在從三種居住方式中擇取其一，展示如何營造具有現實意義的社區：選擇城市模式，可依托廢棄工業區更新改造，或重構高密度城區，賦予其新的價值；選擇郊區模式，應展現社區的凝聚力，而非無序蔓延，并探索如何規劃一個具有凝聚力的社區；選擇鄉村模式，則可呈現融合可持續理念并與景觀環境相協調的新建筑，體現真正的地方性價值與身份認同。
The problem will be to select one of the three ways of living and to demonstrate how communities can be created that have relevance.For those choosing urban,a disused industrial area can be chosen or the reorganisation of a higher dense area of the city that can be redesigned to provide new values.Suburban communities should demonstrate cohesion,not sprawl and how to plan a cohesive community whilst those choosing rural can demonstrate the new architecture of sustainability and landscape integration representing true vernacular values and identity.

·It is recommended to pay attention to the concept of green environmental protection and the utilization of new energy,and encouraged to use new technologies and methods for data collection,analysis,and visual expression.
·Cited data on the existing context is strongly encouraged.
·If AI tools are used to generate drawings and videos,contestants are requested to clearly label them.
·Your submission must be subtitled in English.
口競賽說明：
本競賽采取國內外高校學生自由報名、公開競賽的方式。經教育部認證的建筑及相關專業學生【含全日制本科生、碩士研究生（全日制及含2024年之后的非全日制研究生）、全日制博士研究生及2026年畢業的學生】以個人或小組形式參賽,每組成員不超過4人；指導教師須為高校在職教師，且不超過2名。
This is a fair competition open to all architecture and relevant major students around the globe.Full-time on-campus architecture students from accredited institutions(including master and PhD candidates and graduate students of 2026)can participate alone or as a team with team members of no more than four people.In addition,the advisors-who must be univeristy or college teachers—of no more than two.
如不符合以上規則，獲獎后將取消競賽成績及相應獎項。
If the above rules are not followed,the results of the competition and the corresponding prizes will be cancelled after winning.

建筑進化的過程在于對現狀問題的反思以及對所處時代的回應。建筑與城市、建筑與自然環境的關系問題一直是建筑師面臨的課題。在支離破碎的城市、無序的鄉村里尋找與構建具有場所感的人性化空間；在信息時代，體現與生態環境相協調的可持續發展的建筑理念；在建筑學教育體系中，將設計理念與扎實的建筑學功底有效地結合，是UIA-霍普杯國際大學生建筑設計競賽秉承的主旨。競賽要求參與者不斷追問與探索建筑發展之路，探討當代人對建筑與環境的復雜性需求，關注特定場所及其中的事件，構建具有生命的城市與建筑空間，并尋求適宜技術使方案具有可實施性。
Architecture in Transformation should respond to contemporary challenges and changes.What concerns us primarily is the relationship between architecture and city,as well as the one between architecture and natural environment.The competition aims at searching and constructing human space with a Spirit of Place in the increasingly fragmented cities and unordered villages,exploring environment-friendly and sustainable ideas in the information age,and integrating creative concepts with solid basic skills in architectural design.The competition requires the participants to make detailed insights and reflections on architectural development,explore complicated demands of the people nowadays for architecture and environment,pay attention to specific sites and the events happening in them,and configure viable and dynamic urban and architectural spaces,at the same time seek suitable techniques to guarantee the possibility of implementation of the project.
“UIA-霍普杯國際大學生建筑設計競賽”始于2012年，由國際建筑師協會（UIA）任國際主辦，天津大學建筑學院、《城市環境設計》（UED）雜志社任主辦單位，是由霍普股份獨家贊助的面向國際建筑高校大學生的年度建筑設計競賽，已成功舉辦十四屆。每屆競賽的評委會主席由一名國際著名建筑大師擔任，競賽評委為來自國內外的著名建筑師及學院院長。相較于建筑教育循序漸進的基礎性培養，設計競賽引導學生以全新的方式進行思考以提高解決問題的綜合能力，同時也成為發現建筑精英的推手。
“UIA-HYP Cup International Student Competition in Architectural Design”was initiated in 2012.It is internationally sponsored by the Union International des Architects(UIA),organized by the School of Architecture,Tianjin University and Urban Environment Design(UED)Magazine.Shanghai HYP-ARCH Architectural Design Consultant Co.Ltd.is the Exclusive Naming Sponsor.It is an annual architectural competition which has been successfully held for 14 years.Each year,the UIA-HYP Cup is chaired by an internationally renowned architectural master,and the jury panel is selected from among the world's most outstanding architects and deans from schools of architecture.To boost the architectural education which mainly focuses on basic skill training in its conventional and progressive system,UIA-HYP Cup International Student Competition takes the role as an external platform for student to embrace a brand new thinking approach in order to improve their comprehensive problem solving skill,meanwhile it is also some kind of headhunter for discovering emerging elite architects.

Each of these opportunities of living require the concept of village,where a collection of people have interface with each other and share common values,sharing such things as schools,retail areas and market,community gatherings and meeting halls,where cultural events such as music and art can flourish,and most importantly where the architecture of the village expresses the people themselves in a vernacular way.There is so much discussion of loss of socialisation,mental health issues that have resulted from the loss of village life.The sense of belonging to a place represented by its architecture is important and how that architecture helps in the lives of the people in all ways,environmentally and socially,the sense of identity and belonging.

The inclusion of passive energy technologies into the architecture of our time is important for our survival and how architecture can absorb those technologies without treating them as uncomfortable attachments.
本次設計議題旨在從三種居住方式中擇取其一，展示如何營造具有現實意義的社區：選擇城市模式，可依托廢棄工業區更新改造，或重構高密度城區，賦予其新的價值；選擇郊區模式，應展現社區的凝聚力，而非無序蔓延，并探索如何規劃一個具有凝聚力的社區；選擇鄉村模式，則可呈現融合可持續理念并與景觀環境相協調的新建筑，體現真正的地方性價值與身份認同。
The problem will be to select one of the three ways of living and to demonstrate how communities can be created that have relevance.For those choosing urban,a disused industrial area can be chosen or the reorganisation of a higher dense area of the city that can be redesigned to provide new values.Suburban communities should demonstrate cohesion,not sprawl and how to plan a cohesive community whilst those choosing rural can demonstrate the new architecture of sustainability and landscape integration representing true vernacular values and identity.

·It is recommended to pay attention to the concept of green environmental protection and the utilization of new energy,and encouraged to use new technologies and methods for data collection,analysis,and visual expression.

口競賽說明：
本競賽采取國內外高校學生自由報名、公開競賽的方式。經教育部認證的建筑及相關專業學生【含全日制本科生、碩士研究生（全日制及含2024年之后的非全日制研究生）、全日制博士研究生及2026年畢業的學生】以個人或小組形式參賽,每組成員不超過4人；指導教師須為高校在職教師，且不超過2名。
This is a fair competition open to all architecture and relevant major students around the globe.Full-time on-campus architecture students from accredited institutions(including master and PhD candidates and graduate students of 2026)can participate alone or as a team with team members of no more than four people.In addition,the advisors-who must be univeristy or college teachers—of no more than two.
如不符合以上規則，獲獎后將取消競賽成績及相應獎項。
If the above rules are not followed,the results of the competition and the corresponding prizes will be cancelled after winning.

建筑進化的過程在于對現狀問題的反思以及對所處時代的回應。建筑與城市、建筑與自然環境的關系問題一直是建筑師面臨的課題。在支離破碎的城市、無序的鄉村里尋找與構建具有場所感的人性化空間；在信息時代，體現與生態環境相協調的可持續發展的建筑理念；在建筑學教育體系中，將設計理念與扎實的建筑學功底有效地結合，是UIA-霍普杯國際大學生建筑設計競賽秉承的主旨。競賽要求參與者不斷追問與探索建筑發展之路，探討當代人對建筑與環境的復雜性需求，關注特定場所及其中的事件，構建具有生命的城市與建筑空間，并尋求適宜技術使方案具有可實施性。
Architecture in Transformation should respond to contemporary challenges and changes.What concerns us primarily is the relationship between architecture and city,as well as the one between architecture and natural environment.The competition aims at searching and constructing human space with a Spirit of Place in the increasingly fragmented cities and unordered villages,exploring environment-friendly and sustainable ideas in the information age,and integrating creative concepts with solid basic skills in architectural design.The competition requires the participants to make detailed insights and reflections on architectural development,explore complicated demands of the people nowadays for architecture and environment,pay attention to specific sites and the events happening in them,and configure viable and dynamic urban and architectural spaces,at the same time seek suitable techniques to guarantee the possibility of implementation of the project.
“UIA-霍普杯國際大學生建筑設計競賽”始于2012年，由國際建筑師協會（UIA）任國際主辦，天津大學建筑學院、《城市環境設計》（UED）雜志社任主辦單位，是由霍普股份獨家贊助的面向國際建筑高校大學生的年度建筑設計競賽，已成功舉辦十四屆。每屆競賽的評委會主席由一名國際著名建筑大師擔任，競賽評委為來自國內外的著名建筑師及學院院長。相較于建筑教育循序漸進的基礎性培養，設計競賽引導學生以全新的方式進行思考以提高解決問題的綜合能力，同時也成為發現建筑精英的推手。
“UIA-HYP Cup International Student Competition in Architectural Design”was initiated in 2012.It is internationally sponsored by the Union International des Architects(UIA),organized by the School of Architecture,Tianjin University and Urban Environment Design(UED)Magazine.Shanghai HYP-ARCH Architectural Design Consultant Co.Ltd.is the Exclusive Naming Sponsor.It is an annual architectural competition which has been successfully held for 14 years.Each year,the UIA-HYP Cup is chaired by an internationally renowned architectural master,and the jury panel is selected from among the world's most outstanding architects and deans from schools of architecture.To boost the architectural education which mainly focuses on basic skill training in its conventional and progressive system,UIA-HYP Cup International Student Competition takes the role as an external platform for student to embrace a brand new thinking approach in order to improve their comprehensive problem solving skill,meanwhile it is also some kind of headhunter for discovering emerging elite architects.
